Why "real" libertarianism? Because the "libertarians" of The Libertarian Party (and right-wing libertarians in general) have co-opted a name that was originally (and still) associated with anarchists, i.e. left libertarians (beginning in the 1890s). Anarchism/libertarianism is antithetical to the statist and minarchist strands of so-called libertarianism on the right, including the Libertarian Party-- both birthed in 1970s. They embrace (laissez faire) "capitalism" and politics/government rather than the anarcho-socialist tradition of real libertarians. [By "capitalism," I mean a mutualist view of the extraction/theft of surplus value. I have mutualist leanings, but I am still searching for "my philosophy" because though I have found many great ideas on my journey, its not as if any "one" package seems complete...other than libertarianism, which by no means seems to have an agreed Ideal or set of Ideals other than self-ownership, but even this is questioned.]
Why libertarianism? Because self-ownership is the means and ends to maximum freedom of thought and action, i.e. liberty. Non-aggression, or the Non/Zero-Aggression Principle (NAP), is also often attached to self-ownership as a core tenant of libertarianism. NAP aside, I think self-ownership is the libertarian Ideal that leads to real freedom-- free from the bondage of monopolies in power, whether they be at home, the workplace, amoung friends, or under the umbrella of the State. In addition, self-ownership leads to anti-capitalism (exactly opposite of Hans-Hermann Hoppe's view-- "a full private property order, i.e. capitalism." Yet, capitalism asks people to sell themselves, give up self-ownership in favor of indentured servitude or wage slavery. Capitalism is theft.)
Why bother focusing on a name? I suppose it is pointless, but I'm making a point of it...Ultimately I just want to share, and add to the discussion on libertarianism. However, until I have a blog or forum, or join other blogs or forums, there won't be much "discussion," as the guestbook isn't very practical in this regard.
My arrival to anarchism occured rather quickly, but I was very skeptical during my journey, as I had heard some bad things about anarchy and anarchists. The authors and thoughts/quotes on this site were pivitol in my transition to left-libertarianism/anarchism which began when I realized self-ownership (voluntary cooperation, and non-aggression) is the only logically consistent means by which we can "ALL" remain free, otherwise, we become the subject of others, the subject of a privileged master sovereign.
